HSP is proud to announce the details of our Spring Classics trip.
The classics are the most prestigious one-day professional cycling road races on the international calendar. Most of the events, all run in Western Europe, have been fixtures on the professional calendar for decades and the oldest ones date back to the 19th Century. In the last few years, the five most revered races are sometimes described as the “Monuments.” Our trip will experience two of the biggest — and many exciting things in between.
The HSP Super Ronde will be a 10-day journey into the heart of cycling history. Those who attend will get an up close and personal look at the “cobbled classics” starting with the Ronde van Vlaanderen. It is the most important cycling race in Belgium and one of the world’s most important cycling races held on a single day. Its nickname is Vlaanderens mooiste (Dutch for “Flanders’ finest”).
The second Spring Classic on the itinerary: Paris Roubaix. This race first started in 1896, and is one of cycling’s oldest races. Famous for rough terrain and cobblestones, it has been called the The Hell of the North, A Sunday in Hell, (which is also the title of a film about the 1976 edition of the race), Queen of the Classics, or La Pascale: the Easter race.
Not only will participants be at the start and on-course to witness these epic events, we will ride the Ronde Van Vlaanderen Cyclosportif on the first Saturday. On the following Saturday we will ride 100km of the fabled cobbled roads of the Paris Roubaix route.
Gent-Wevelgem, one of the semi-classics, used to fall on the Wednesday between the Ronde van Vlaanderen and Paris-Roubaix., but the race has now been moved to the weekend before the Ronde. However, we would not want anyone to miss the opportunity to ride up the infamous Kemmelberg climb, so we will be riding on that course during the week.
The Super Ronde is open to 10 riders. Interested riders should have a base of fitness that will allow them to ride 400-500 km in one week. The rides will all be supported and ride distances will vary depending on the group.
Cost: $3500.00. This does not include airfare. Please book your ticket to arrive Friday, April 2nd and depart Monday, April 12th.
$1000.00 deposit is required by Februry 10, 2010 in order to reserve space. $500.00 of that deposit Is refundable. Complete payment will be due on March 10, 2010.
