The L.I.N.K. Philosophy
Our bike fit specialists use a procedure known as “Logical Integration of Necessary Knowledge.’ In a nutshell, these tenets outline a fitting procedure that provides a thorough analysis of every unique human body.
Our Herriott Sports Performance bike fit specialists have knowledge of bicycle mechanics. They know the mechanics of the machine and the different options for equipment. Different aerobars, seat-tube angles, types of saddles, handlebars, and pedal systems are among the things a bike fit specialist must know. Our facility has the resources to allow for different bike parts to be changed. If the tools are not available then the fit is not complete. These tools are available to cut carbon posts, try different handlebars, aerobars, and saddles. In addition, we have a dedicated “fitbike” so we are able to create the perfect bike fit without the constraints of your current bike. This also allows for custom frame design.
These are the tools of the trade. Would you expect a carpenter to come to your house without a hammer? The bike fit specialist must have the proper equipment.
The second pillar of necessary knowledge is to understand the sports of cycling and triathlon, the different disciplines within the sport, and the rules of competition. There are different ways to ride a bicycle; a road cyclist does not sit on a bike like a mountain bike rider or like a triathlete. The triathlete does not ride a bike like a road time trialist in most cases. And the rules associated with each sport are different.
Thanks to current technology, cycling is one of the most measurable sports. A proper fit leverages these technologies to the greatest effect. A fit should take place on a power-based trainer, such as a Computrainer and the fit should apply appropriate wattage. Spinscan and Powercranks can be used for pedal analysis and retraining. Motion analysis with video is essential for a dynamic fit session, as well. The naked eye will miss details when a cyclist is pedaling at 100 rpm.
The most important foundation of the L.I.N.K. system is evolution. Our system uses principles gained from decades of experience in the sport of cycling and triathlon, studying the human body, and performing bike fits. We follow the current research and learn from the other experts in the field. We are always looking for more knowledge and further refinements to our technique.
