The Elite Bike Fit

Utilizing the most state-of-the-art equipment available, this is the premiere system for determining proper bicycle ergonomics and rider posture. The process begins with anthropometric measurements of the cyclist’s body to assess each individual’s biomechanical system. The bicycle is then measured and changes are made utilizing laser precision to eliminate error. This is the most comprehensive bike fitting system available. Rather than relying on the assumption that the same angles are ideal for all people, this system measures each individual’s skeletal structure to determine the ideal angles to create the optimal bike fit for performance and comfort.

Once the position is accepted for static angles, we incorporate motion analysis with video software to measure angles during pedaling activity. When a cyclist is pedaling at 100rpm, the naked eye cannot capture all the details.

Our comprehensive bike fitting system takes two hours to complete and is performed by two nationally-respected leaders in the field of bike fitting: Todd Herriott and Russell Cree, DPT. Before any measurements or adjustments are made, video will be taken of you riding your current position on a trainer or on rollers for a baseline comparison. The process begins with precise anthropometric measurements of the your musculoskeletal system. The fit begins with adjustment of the cleat and shoe interface, which is critical to a proper bike fit.

Improper or neglected cleat adjustment will result in an incorrect fit and can lead to faulty pedaling mechanics, which leads to loss or power and performance and heightens the risk of injury. Shims/wedges, pedal spacers, and custom in-soles are used as needed. The cleat mechanism can be adjusted in five planes and we address them all.

With the precision of lasers for alignment, your bicycle is carefully adjusted. Saddle fore/aft, saddle height, saddle tilt, handlebar to saddle drop and reach, handlebar rotation, brake lever placement, crank length, bar width, stem length, and other measurements are determined. If any part needs to be changed, whether the stem length needs to be altered or seatpost offset is incorrect, we have inventory available for these changes. We carry a selection of bars, stems, posts, bars, and other parts as we have accounts with all major cycling brands to insure you are able to quickly obtain the correct size parts for your bike.

With the initial adjustments in place, you will again ride the bike for a dynamic assessment. You can communicate feedback on the new position, and video analysis will continue so you can see the difference in addition to feeling the difference. Biomechanical alignment is checked, pedaling mechanics may be assessed using Computrainer Spinscan analysis. If the change in position is dramatic then a plan may be created to wean the client off of the old position in a safe manner to avoid injuries from changing “too much too soon.”

Herriott Sports Performance is competent in fitting bikes for all disciplines of cycling including road cycling for racing and for recreation or touring, mountain biking, cyclocross, track, and time trialing and triathlon. Todd and Russell are knowledgeable in the rules of USA Cycling, the UCI and USAT for positioning to keep your bike legal for competition. Staying within these boundaries, a position will be determined to produce power and efficiency, keeping in mind the latest in aerodynamic principles based on wind-tunnel data.

Russell, being a licensed Physical Therapist, can assess and diagnose musculoskeletal injuries if the underlying cause of your cycling discomfort is from a pathology or injury. A treatment plan can be created to address these issues and both Russell and Todd work closely to develop a therapeutic exercise program to address imbalances or weakness. Russell is in-network for several health insurance programs. Call or email for details on insurance. If you are seeking a new fit and position due to discomfort or pain, it is of great benefit to see a professional in health care that specializes in cycling injuries. A medical musculoskeletal evaluation is also available.

Bike fitting is a passion for Todd and Russell. The time is taken to address each detail with body measurements, adjustments, and dynamic assessment. Todd and Russell are experts in both cycling and human anatomy and physiology and will address every detail to help you reach your optimal fit for comfort and performance.
