Herriott Sports Performance is the only training facility in the Pacific Northwest to offer RMT.
RMT with the hand held Spirotiger Training Unit can help increase the amount of air that is brought into the lungs each minute, and thus the amount of O2 that can be extracted and delivered by the heart and vascular system to the exercising muscles. Along with changes in the capillaries at the muscle cell level, the training effect will allow an athlete to swim/ride/run LONGER and STRONGER without becoming anaerobic in their metabolism.
Targeted endurance training of the respiratory muscles can substantially increase endurance, resulting in a relevant increase in functional capacity. The Spirotiger is the only respiratory trainer that works for endurance. Other systems focus on resistance, which is analogous to weight lifting rather than endurance training. Studies have shown up to a 50% increase in endurance for untrained individuals and 10% increase for trained athletes. Regular use of the Spirotiger has also shown the following results:
• Substantial increase of endurance and performance.
• Improved top performance in all phases of competition.
• Improved metabolic processes.
• Shortened recovery times during and after events.
• Delayed lactate production
• Improved coordination of the respiratory system under stress.
• Energetically efficient breathing under stress.
• Elimination or threshold increase of stress asthma.
• Improved oxygen supply to the skeletal muscles under stress.
• Complement to or partial replacement of interval training.
• Training that is non-stressful to the heart and cardiovascular system.
• Personal control of performance development.
A University of Arizona study shows that trained cyclists improved their time trial performances by 4.7% (2 mins faster in a 45 min TT) after twenty 45 minute RMT sessions with the Spirotiger.
Spirotiger Respiratory Trainer: $995
Spirotiger User Set: (allows another user to use the same unit) $169
RMT Private session: $95
Follow up sessions with personal user set: $15
New RMT training clients undergo a Measured Forced Vital Capacity Test (The amount of air that can be maximally forced out of the lungs after a maximal inspiration with an emphasis on speed) using a Spiropet Spirometer. The test gives a very accurate measurement of lung volume and will help determine the size of training bag that a client will start training with. Bags range from 2-5 liters.
