Woodland Park was the site for HSPX #2. After only one session the starts, run-up & barrier drills are improving. Flash had ‘em breathing hard before we even started our pre-ride of the course. Woodland offers terrific terrain for cyclocross. If you’ve ever watched cyclocross at the World Cup level, then you’ve seen how fast the hybrid bikes can travel. Woodland Park could host a World Championship course! It has elevation change, off-camber, fast hard-pack, grass, pavement, gravel, speed & for bonus points it even has rabbits, squirrels & logs. The whole course is wide enough, so if you have the juice, you can pass. Like World Cup courses, the Woodland course lets the riders dictate who wins. It is not so difficult that someone(s) can just ride away. It has some tricky off-camber turns, but you really have to string a couple of good moves together to get away because a little gap can vanish on the short road section. There was no need for man-made barriers today. The logs & downed tree did the trick for us. I love riding ‘cross at Woodland…it’s like riding bike when you were a kid…fun. See you tuesday at the Queen Anne Bowl!
